Be yourself, everyone else is taken

#24 - Why look at the other people around you to figure out how to be when the answers are already within you?
4

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson

Something big has been on my mind lately, and I know it has been on yours too, at least at some level…

The unnatural state of our current world is palpable, and many folks are using the internet to discuss how it feels confusing to be here on this planet during this pivotal time in Hue-Man history.

In massive numbers people are currently asking themselves, “how did we get here, and what the heck comes next?”

As our world continues to go through cascading life-altering changes, these are the right questions to be asking.

But the thing is, once you form your answers to your great questions, you must make important decisions, and act upon them. That is the way this game of life works. Questions are not meant to remain questions forever, nor are problems meant to remain unsolvable.

Our great questions are meant to be answered, and problems that affect the whole collective are meant to be solved. This is how we progress together, giving every-body a chance to thrive in an intentionally evolved world.

This writing project exists because it is the natural action I felt I had to take to create the world that I actually want to live in, and to create a new career that I feel deeply passionate about to support my future family with.

When I faced the great question of, “how can I use my unique experience to assist the people I care about in moving past the barriers that keep them locked in the comfort zone”, this project became the result.

While the comfort zone seems comfortable at first, we each know that it ultimately leads to stagnation and suffering, and currently it seems that since 2020, many folks are feeling confused while searching for how to attain the life they aspire to live.

Each week I write as a service to both you and me with the vision that we can work together on ourselves to become the fearless leaders of our own lives. This means that each of us has our own work to do, and our own fears to face.

It takes courage to move through our fears to face the unknown, and to make risky decisions about our path forward when we do not have all the answers. But life requires us to take risks from time to time, and only by embodying the mentality of the fearless leader will each of us use our courage to create the fulfillment we need to feel to be at peace.

We have discussed the true power that words and thoughts hold in previous articles of this publication, and I encourage you to read past issues to find them on your own if you are interested in why the way you think and talk about yourself and others is incredibly important.

With the advent and widespread adoption of social media, one word that is used to an extreme these days is “follower”.

Since my readers know the incredible power that their words and thoughts hold, my question to you is this…

What do you think the true impact of constantly proclaiming yourself as a “follower” is? What does calling yourself that name do to your subconscious mind, and how does the action made by the subconscious shape your behavior?

Consider that our collective behavior is what created the world that we are all experiencing right now. The “surreality” that we are all questioning deeply at this time.

Social media shows us that the proclivity of the average hue-man is to mimic the behavior of others that they feel aligned with. To emulate what they perceive as “greatness” that leads to “acceptance”.

There are many “influencers” out there on the internet, and many “followers” who emulate their style and behavior in the hopes that one day they will be “loved by many” like the people they idolize seem to be.

The “influencer” lifestyle sells itself as “better than thou”, and creates feelings of inadequacy in impressionable minds. Young adults spend exorbitant amounts of time on these platforms and end up feeling like they have to be more like someone else than themselves if they ever want to feel loved and accepted.

“If only I did my hair like that guy, then all the girls would want me…”

“If my butt looked like Kim K’s, then more guys would talk to me…”

You already know how it goes, and like me and so many others, I am sure you have probably fallen victim to this mentality in the past.

People love to mimic the behavior of those that they idolize who seem to be living the life that they want to attain, but those onlookers are often unwilling to do the dedicated work that it takes to learn who they truly are as a unique individual. To learn where their true power comes from.

I once heard someone say, “be yourself, everyone else is taken”, and their words have been cemented in my mind since that moment.

In order to be yourself you first have to figure out who you are and what you believe. And that is impossible to do if you spend all of your time mimicking the behavior of others.

Your true identity is discovered by looking within, and by creating experiences that award you the opportunity to show yourself what you are truly capable of.

This is what leaders do. They create the world they want to live in with their conscious action. They become who they are meant to be by trusting and following the intuitive voice within them that guides them along their true path. They follow their hearts, even when others do not believe in them.

The greatest “influencer” of all is the heart, the drum that beats the rhythm of life through each of us. But the heart asks us each to believe in ourselves enough to risk it all from time to time, and that requires us to build foundations of experience that show us we can trust our heart’s guidance.

We do not find trust in ourselves unless we do the work that it takes to develop it. I know you have the courage within you to do your true work, and I thank you for the support you give me as I do mine.

🌟🌟🌟

This week’s practice brings our focus inward. Try taking a break from doom scrolling social media to write down some ideas about what you want to create in your own life. Focus on what you can control instead of idolizing others who make you feel that they are living a “better” life and having more fun than you are.

In my experience, once something is written down it becomes more “real” than it was when it was simply an idea spinning around in the mind. Once you see your own aspirations written down in front of you, it makes it easier to place your focus on what you can create for yourself, rather than wasting your energy pining for a life(style) that looks preferable to what you have now.

Write down a list of your goals and get addicted to checking them off and see for yourself what happens to your Spirit when you take that action.
