One hour per day will absolutely change our world
#6 - We never "find" the time to build our dreams. We have to "make" it, and that means we must learn to get out of our own way.
“Are you a dreamer? Haven’t seen too many of you around lately…”
From the film Waking Life.
“I’m too tired.”
”I don’t have the time.”
”I don’t have the energy for this today.”
”I’ll do it tomorrow.”
We all know what it feels like to tell ourselves those dream killing stories because they are a crucial part of the Human Experience that we are meant to overcome. We all have dreams and aspirations that we know we should be spending our time building, yet it is far easier to take the path of least resistance while doing mental gymnastics to convince ourselves that it is OK to remain locked within the “safe” zone of comfortable mediocrity.
While we are within that comfy space we tell ourselves stories that we are “just tooooo tired” to do the work we know we are meant to do, and that we will do it “tomorrow”. But too much comfort for too long translates into a new feeling - the feeling of suffering which develops through inaction. We have all been there and we all know how it feels to perceive ourselves as powerless. We can all feel how it feels to live the unnatural way of life that we are currently allowing to proceed here on Earth.
Do not get me wrong, it is not my intention to ever come across as “higher than thou” or to elevate myself above anyone else in any way, but I do recognize that I am perceived as a different person with differing intentions in the minds of everyone I know. I spent the majority of my life in mindset and body I was not proud of, doing mental gymnastics to convince myself I was “OK” within my comfort zone, even though I knew my own inaction was killing me. I am no different than you or anyone else, but I am willing to do the work necessary to find peace within myself. It works.
What I have learned “the hard way” on my path is that the only way to rewrite the detrimental internal stories that hold us back is to observe ourselves in the process of telling them, and then to immediately rewire our thinking to rescript our own narrative. All human beings possess the third dimensional power to consciously observe and rewrite the stories that we once held ourselves back with, and to create new stories that support our goals and dreams to spring forward into the action needed to build them. The solutions to our problems are not external, they have always been within each of us. How our lives pan out is our choice, and our actions reflect our choices each day.
”Tomorrow” is a place where the dreams of many languish in ambiguity while the stagnation of their creative energy builds a house of suffering within their hearts. When we kick the can down the road by saying, “I will do it tomorrow”, this act functions as something of a pressure release valve for the mind. This act relieves the internal pressure that builds through inaction which helps us to go to sleep at night while still feeling like we are moving forward, even though we know we have trapped ourselves within a zone of comfort that will do nothing to serve the greater evolution of our minds. We all want to start tomorrow feeling even better about ourselves than we do now, and that requires work to be done today. Every day.
Moving Forward, what do you think would happen in your life if you spent just one hour each day actively working on building your dreams? One hour is but 1/24th of the day, and we are all going to burn that hour without the option of getting it back, whether we like that fact or not. Wouldn’t you like to find yourself one hour closer to accomplishing your wildest dreams at the end of each day? That seems like a better place to be than sitting on the couch streaming video content with hands down the pants.
Our one hour per day goal requires that we get out of our own way in order to succeed in doing the work. When we catch ourselves saying, “I am too tired”, or “I will do it tomorrow”, we know what we must do in those situations. Nobody else can do our realest work for us, and we all know this is true, so our self-sabotaging stories and blame shifting must be put to rest.

This week’s practice is more of a challenge. I challenge you to spend 1/24th of each day, for seven days, working on something that you feel passionate about. This act brings intentions in line with actions and together our collective action makes Earth a better world to live in. We’ve already seen what collective apathy does, and let’s be real, we are all tired of it.
Write in your journal, make art, go to the gym and kick your own butt, create a new recipe and go all out on it, build something with your hands, volunteer at a shelter, write a business plan for that ice cream shop you keep dreaming of starting - the sky is the limit, friend. I guarantee you that you will feel incredible about yourself, and that the momentum you build each day will carry you to new heights of being. Keep it going and sooner than later you will look back at the previous version of yourself, and the person you have become will billow a hearty laugh into the wind with a cheshire smile painted from ear to ear.
